Denial is not just a river in Egypt. Clearly.

Me: (thinking, for about the 10 millionth time) So I really can't decide whether I prefer the 10th doctor or the 11th doctor [of Doctor Who]...
Sub-conscious: Hi. This is your sub-conscious.
Me: ...
Sub-conscious: So. Can't decide between David Tennant and Matt Smith, huh.
Me: But they're both wonderful. I mean, Matt is the quintessential Doctor. He's hilariously funny, crazy, a little eccentric, brilliant, brilliantly eccentric, idealistic (bigger on the inside, anyone?), overflowing with compassion, is a huge overgrown puppy, a little untouchable -- and then Tennant. Who's not the quintessential Doctor. He's darker, more angry, more angsty, more human--
Sub-conscious: Oh, let's count the ways. One. There are only two tags you track on tumblr. Hugh Jackman is one of them. Matt Smith is not the other.
Me: This is not going to end well.
Sub-conscious: You only read 10th doctor fanfiction. (That AO3 tag? Very nifty).
Me: ...Now that you mention it...
Sub-conscious: You'd rather watch the Matt Smith episodes only because you're verrrry carefully rationing the David Tennant ones so that they don't run out.
Me: ... ...
Sub-conscious: Face it. You already know which mad man in a box you'd run away with, if you had to pick.
Me: *massive cluebat to the face* Oh.

It's really weird, because I'm watching all these episodes out of sequence and I totally identify with Matt as "my" Doctor, the way people who started with Tennant identify with him as their Doctor, and Season 5 of Doctor Who is exactly what I expected the series to be and why I just couldn't get into the series when it was Christopher Eccleston. (Well, Season 5 is a LOT MORE SCARY than a children's show has any right to be, but!) Now that I know a little bit better (and a little bit more about the series), I love the idea of the Ninth Doctor being this bitter, war-scarred veteran, but from a nicely (purely) philosophical viewpoint. (That line about humanity being stupid apes train-wrecked my entire attempt to watch Season 1). And then Tennant waltzes in and within two episodes of Season 4 they're tearing into his head and kicking you in the guts with so much empathy. And I was all - wait wait wait, I don't see the Doctor being that angry, that vengeful, where is Matt and his wouldn't-hurt-a-fly and... and yet I do see it and what is this brainwashing and oh hell David Tennant THAT BRILLIANT SMILE AND THOSE HUGE PUPPY EYES I JUST CANNOT COPE--

I think I was lost beyond recall by S4 Episode 2, it just took me a week to admit it.

(Having said that - Matt is absolutely adorable and makes for a great change after Tennant's episodes rip your heart out and stomp all over it and leave Tennant to sort of try to inflate it and pat it back into shape while going "I'm so, so sorry" ...

Strangely enough, though, every now and then I keep getting the feeling with Matt's Doctor that you're really only scratching the very surface, and there's something a lot darker and more sinister lurking underneath...)

I'm having the weirdest illness ever. A cold showed up last week, just the cold and the feeling of being hit by a truck, no other symptoms. I might have mentioned it.

The sorethroat turns up a week later. Just the sorethroat (and a little bit of the feeling of being hit by a truck). Absolutely no other symptoms. This is completely abnormal for me (and rather inefficient, I must say).

I think suspect one or the other accidentally fell into a time vortex.

Yes Tennant's Dr is very intense and also very wear-your-heart-on-a-sleeve. Matt's Dr is more light, but I agree with you there is more lurking beneath the surface.

Probably and age thing ... I wouldn't run away with either but I will take off with Eccleston! ^_^ He's more logical, more Spock-like I guess which I am more comfortable with. As a family ... hubby is very for Tom Baker's Dr and the children love Matt Smith to pieces. I'd worry about the girl wanting to go off with Dr 10 and the boy going off with Matt Smith. Hmmm and Who (pun intended entirely) of the two are the lesser of evils? I cannot really say.

Uhmm feel better soon, collectively.

*gentle hugs*

Hope the week goes by fast enough for you and you get to have a good weekend (without injury!)

Love from us.
