So, sudden crazy mad idea of (on the Vorkosigan front) -- what if Simon ended up together with Cordelia? I fully expect that Simon would get the short end of the stick, poor guy. But if there's anyone who can actually deal with getting together with the Chief of ImpSec (and keep him sane despite his job), I would place bets on Cordelia.
And while we're on the subject of crazy mad ideas, on the FF7 fandom front, a random prompt somewhere for Rufus/Aeris latched on despite my best efforts to fend it off, and then an evil enabler friend of mine went - "Tell me more."
Starting during the Golden Age of Shinra, when Rufus is young teenager dreaming of rebellion and off in Junon for high school/college. Tseng negotiates a deal where Shinra Company takes Aeris under its wing, as Tseng's ward, in exchange for her agreeing to provide them with the occasional DNA or blood sample for research purposes, and nothing more heinous than that. Aka the fic in which Aeris and her mom actually spend about 4 happy years in Shinra Company.
Rufus turns 18, graduates, comes home to Midgar, and runs into Aeris. It's hate at first sight. Naturally. In the meantime, Rufus is (very secretly) sleeping with the enemy (Elfe) (because my muse insists), and Aeris is seeing Zack (of course), and both of them are fighting over Tseng's attention, and Reno is trying not to bash both of their heads together. Kids. (And Tseng is with Veld. Because this scene is too funny not to include -- Rufus telling Aeris that Tseng-whom-she-has-a-crush-on? Okay, look at Veld. Now look at Tseng. Now look at Veld. Now look at Tseng looking at Veld. Got it? Got it.)
Things go wrong, like they always do. Elfe leaves for Avalanche. Aeris and Rufus nearly become friends, when Nibelheim happens and Zack dies. Aeris leaves, events segue into the in-game events, except that Sephiroth's attempt to skewer Daddy Shinra fails, and Daddy Shinra doesn't die. (And boy, is there hell to pay. The FF7 in-game events with Daddy Shinra in charge would make an entire fic on their own).
Rufus and Aeris' this-is-not-a-courtship-and-damnit-this-is-not-a-long-distance-relationship (I so want to call this Apocalypse Children) involves stealing the Highwind, Rufus parachuting into the Northern Crater with an entire cadre of Turks in time to stop Sephiroth from skewering Aeris prettily, Cloud and Rufus duking the heck out of each other over their girl, Tifa taking control of Avalanche, explosions every which where, the Weapons rampaging all over the Planet, Rufus getting thrown in prison, Meteor, and the world ending. Naturally.
(And Nightwish makes for the best background music when writing this synopsis.)
...I actually want to write this.

Welll, my plan is to start on 'The Moon Trail' (working title) after Glass Butterflies is done, it's an illustrated original story, and after that I want to finish 'The Secrets of the Yaaniae' (working title) and 'Eden Extra Terra' (working title, video game)... the thing with the story that is tied to that Rufus-saving-the-world headcanon, is that its a full blow epic story. (That I did start on a while ago, but it needs to be rewritten from scratch.) I don't think I'd have the time as things are now. :/
I do have half a mind of rewriting all that material into an original story, which I could publish under my company's flag.
