This. Seems to have become the centerpiece of E Tenebris (also rapidly becoming the fic in which Simon doesn't get the short end of the stick, for once, except that he does. A lot.)

Also, now that I'm digging up Aral's early character a bit more, I'm finding it hard to reconcile the man who killed two people for sleeping with his wife, with the Aral we see at Komarr. Or Shards. Or, I'm stupidly tired (on my third cup of coffee, on a weekend), and missing something entirely.

E Tenebris is also starting to demand its own soundtrack. And Simon is full of angst.

I managed to scrape together two braincells this afternoon, so managed to get 2k words written.

Shoulder's really hurting quite sharply tonight. And I really need a drink, and it's only Sunday night. Well, technically 30 minutes into Monday. (And I'm going to kill someone over this draft agreement; considering the amount of misery it's been causing me, that person might just be myself).

I hope Simon and Aral are being a good distraction from the rest of life! *pours you a drink* And oh yes, he is a wonderfully complicated man. But then, people are, and do one thing one time, and another some otehr time, and I think he learns a lot and grows a lot between his twenties and his forties. That would make a fascinating story in itself, really, how he changes from the one to the other. And I think there's quite a gulf between Komarr-Aral and Shards-Aral too, though some of that is Cordelia changing him.

And oh YES, that line is a pretty spot-on perfect description of what Escobar does to Aral.

Aral's evolution between Komarr and Shards would definitely make for an interesting fic, considering it seems to be absolutely unexplained. I've always assumed that Aral is (has ever always been) the man we see in Shards (thanks in no small part to his role in the civil war) but right now I'm wondering ...

Simon and Aral did provide a lovely distraction for a few hours, and it's with great reluctance that I pull myself away from them. (And I was looking for the name of the Escobarran invasion flagship and somehow ended up re-reading AVD *g*)

That line is getting so spun out over the course of this fic. Aral doesn't quite do an Escobar, but he does re-enact it on a smaller scale ...
